We decided to visit the David Austin display gardens/shop yesterday as I've always wanted to go there, the roses are all coming out, the weather was great & they're closed next weekend due to the Cosford airshow being on. About an hour & half drive from here so we may go back again another day, quite busy though, full car park & we were told it gets a lot busier than that. I was impressed by the display gardens, well maintained & lots of clear labels, a free garden plan & catalogue, reasonably priced tea room & restaurant & very tempting shop & plant areas although I managed to resist! Some roses caught my eye, lovely shapes & scent, Olivia Rose Austin, Desdemona, Ancient Mariner, Tottering by Gently (love the name & single lemon open roses but looks a little bit delicate) & Etoile de Hollande but the species rose 'Moyseii' was the one the bees all loved. It's nice to be able to see the plants fully grown & stick your nose in them to check the scent, they are very expensive though at £22.50 - £23.00 for the container roses but do look in good condition.

We were lucky Eli, not too bad on the motorway there either, no crashes just the usual roadworks. This is the 'Tottering by Gently' rose, couldn't get the pic. to load yesterday:-

Me neither grindle, not a sign of blackspot & they must have a team who go round constantly dead-heading! I did spot some aphids though mostly on the species type roses but that provides food for the birds, there were little dunnocks & robins dipping in & out of the rose beds & a couple of peacocks wandering around the grounds.

Amazing I would by 'Tottering' on the spot for it's name well if I had room! The DA gardens are a bit over an hours' drive from us, I guess, several friends have been and say it's amazing. It does look brilliant. I have to say I find Peter Beales roses are doing better than my DA's in my garden here I wish I could recreate that 'overflowing with blooms' look.

It's worth a visit Bess but I believe it does get very busy at times. I've found some of their roses can be a bit 'delicate' too but it's so tempting when you see them in the gardens there & you can stick your nose in them to check the scent.

Wow. My three roses are from David Austin, and it looks like a lovely place to visit SueA. They do have a filtering system on their website that throws up robust plants. I went for two of them, being new to this. Why make it difficult?!
