We went to the Gardeners' World Live show in Birmingham yesterday with the tickets I won from my company pension magazine & luckily the winds there weren't too bad. Not terribly impressed with the show gardens but then that's not really the point of the show as it's mostly commercial but the floral marquee was quite impressive although parking at £12 is extortionate even though there is a free shuttle bus from the car park to the entrance. Adam Frost & Monty Don were doing talks & interviews with James Alexander-Sinclair etc. & the Good Food show was also on so we had a wander around that & sampled a few interesting products. The only thing I bought was a Ragged Robin 'Jenny' because the colour caught my eye & it's suitable for the damp border so I was very restrained! Barnsdale garden stand Small 'bee friendly' show garden Bonsai display - unusual to see one all in flower Cacti display Carnivorous plant display, love these but don't want to risk them being eaten etc. Flowers in small show garden James & Monty Small 'Mermaid' show garden Adam Frost & Lucy from G.World mag. Pretty lime green orchid Shady corner display Gorgeous black 'Starry Night' zantedeschias.

glad you had a good time, I used to go before it included the food and wine show, I think I was there for it's first year but thought it was too much. Some people have said that it wasn't as good this year as past years

I've been a couple of times in the past I think grindle but it is very busy & commercial, I think the RHS used to support it but don't any more so the standards have probably dropped a little as well. I remember they used to have a plant swap tent where you could take spares & swap them for something else, I did that one year, can't remember what I got though, that must have been an early show because I remember a BBC researcher chatting to me in there & asking me would I like to enter the gardener of the year competition & giving me an entry form, she said they needed more female entrants, it was when it was on TV around the time Sue Beesley won, I would have died rather than try that!

don't blame you SueA I certainly wouldn't do it again, it was the scariest thing I've ever done

I love the idea of going, but held off, as I don’t like extra busy places.

It is off-putting chrism but it's not as busy there as some of the other shows like Chelsea where everyone seems to shuffle around in a huge crowd, I'm not happy in big crowds either but there were places outdoors where you could get a bit of space & we sat in a couple of deckchairs & had an ice cream. One of the biggest problems was hundreds of people with those plastic collapsible plant crates bumping into your legs & feet, they're very useful but some people need driving lessons before they use them!
