Today’s crop yielded half the amount and the flowers were smaller. I wonder if it’s a combination of the time of year and the cumulative effect of all the heat? Not an issue- just an observation from a novice.

I think it probably is the relentless heat & sunshine wearing them down. I have one pot of slightly sad looking little sweet pea flowers.

Aside from ever-increasing greenfly, I’ve now got very small white blobs underneath the leaves. I scraped one off this morning to have a close look, but am none the wiser as to what it is. There’s mildew everywhere, despite lots of watering (once a day). I reckon SueA is right re the heat. Here’s a photo of the white insects:

Could be mealybugs ?
I've heard lots of folks commenting about poor pea crops this year due to lack of water....

They do look like mealybugs as Lou78W says, if that's what they are then it shows how hot it's been as you normally get them on indoor/greenhouse plants. I'd rub any off you can find as they are sap-suckers but if there aren't that many they won't have done much damage.

It turns out that the things in the photo above are the result of parasitic wasps that feed on juvenile aphids. Excellent. www.defenders.co.uk/pest-solutions/aphid-control.htmlMine are still producing flowers, but not lots. I’m leaving both tepees up for a number of weeks yet. I’ve still got ladybirds on them, munching away, plus the wasps are doing thing. We’re away for two weeks from the 7th of next month. I’ll take them down afterwards.

I don`t seem to be good at growing sweet peas and I love them. I decided this year to sow direct which I did back in late April . I sowed several varieties from different sources and all fresh seed. How many plants grew ? not one
