Thank you all so much for remembering me. It was my 70th this time but fairly low key as I am saving to visit a friend in the USA in the next 12 months. The open day went really well with Trafford's Mayor officiating at the launch of our beautiful bee garden to commemorate the 22 victims of the Manchester Arena Bomb. Sadly, just one week later local vandals chopped heads off many plants and flowers and left them strewn about. Heartbreaking as this area means so much to so many people who grafted hours and hours volunteering to bring the project to fruition. The bee is hung on the wall and is 3ft. across with its commemorative plaque below. Locals who care about this local peaceful oasis rallied round and raised enough money to install CCTV cameras within days of this act of wanton vandalism. We had only just received the green flag status for the park in just 12 months of the volunteers working hard to meet the criteria. I hope the cameras will deter future vandalism.

That's so sad libralady after all that hard work on the garden, I hope the cameras deter them in future, what an awful thing to happen.

Hi Sue
It won't deter the volunteers who are on a dedicated mission to keep the gardens looking lovely for the benefit of all. Pop down next time you are in Flixton and you will see how much things have improved. Look out for the fairy doors which the children have fun trying to find, and the two painted metal doors which have a design on them in keeping with the surroundings. The gardens looked beautiful during Spring and Summer this year.
