I apologise for this very late reply.
Other than a heavy cold I have been extremely busy in the garden. I rebuilt a 30ft garden bed, new treated pine sleepers for the edging, replacing the 40+ old railway sleepers. I kept the first 12ins then dug out another 12ins and threw it all over a garden. That meant replacing all the old top soil mixed with a composted mulch, cook poo, moo poo, soil wetter and ferts. Being on the wrong side of 80 I did too much and strained the old back. I rested myself and the soil for a few weeks well I kept turning it over and watering it often. Finally I planted it full of new Dahlia.
Most are now shooting our weather is not helping very little rain and several very hot days.

You sound like you've been very busy keith, don't do yourself a permanent injury! We had a 'heatwave' over here during the summer & it was difficult to keep everything well watered but I expect it's much hotter where you are & a much bigger job.

Happy birthday Keith. . My sister in Brunswick said it was hot in Melbourne, but my daughter near Townsville says mega hot with regular temperatures over 42 deg. Your new beds sound great. Enjoy your birthday.

Cherry
Where your Sister lives its very close to Melb many Roads with traffic, highly populated. Where we live is on the coast 2klm from the bay and about 8klm from the ocean and next land stop is the South Pole all that means is we get the cool change most nights where you Sister would miss out. I know the area reasonably well.
The Petunias are thriving and growing at a great rate. I planted more Dianthus Mini carnation today all pinkish tones.
