I've signed up to the emails sweetpea not that I'm any good at spotting & I.D.ing stars or planets but it may give me an idea what I'm looking at. It's usually too cloudy to see anything but in the clear frosty skies we've had recently some stars are bright & I can see Orion out of the back window most nights.

SueA If you really want to know what to look at and where then download the FREE Planetarium suite called Stellarium. Once you figure out how to use it(quite easy really) you can set your site, time and date etc. and zoom in on different objects plus also shows satellite tracks. Just search 'Stellarium' and download. Can't recommend it highly enough.

Thanks sweetpea, I'll have a look at that, I don't have a telescope or anything but do sometimes have a look through binoculars, the main problem is usually cloud.

Isn't it always. there are apps you can download on your iphone but I find the screen is too small to be convenient although an I pad is not too bad. I use my laptop for these type of programs.

Well, I tried my binoculars out. They're only about x5; not very powerful. I pointed them upwards, and I saw a giant spider !!!!!! Next time, I might try going outside !
