I have some lovely hellebores in the garden but the flower stems are rotting. The leaves are clean, no sign of leaf spot so I'm a bit puzzled.
Any ideas chums?

If there are no signs of the Black Death or Black spot or virus affected leaves then I would suspect molluscs eating the base of the stems.

That does sound odd Rosie, can only think as Geumlover suggests that it's something like slugs/snails or cutworms who've woken up hungry in the warm weather & caused damage which is starting to decay or maybe the sudden temperature change from the snow you had to the hot sun has somehow caused the stems to freeze & then thaw too suddenly & rot?

Was there any physical signs of munching on the stems, Rosie ?

No signs of any chomping I could see, new flower stems are still appearing and, touch wood, they seem ok at the minute. Just to be on the safe side I've taken off all the leaves and disposed of them. Thanks for your replies everyone

I read somewhere else that they cut the affected bits off and gave it a fungicide drench
