Does anyone have any thoughts as to what it is? (Foreground, with ‘catkins’) Thanks.

I'd guess it's some sort of grass/cereal from bird seed chrism, I had something similar which grew in our border & looked lovely but I had to dig it out earlier this year as it had formed a massive clump which was swamping other plants.
