Can anyone offer any advice ? My sister has a large-ish rosemary bush. It is about 6' tall, quite wide, and we reckon is about 50 years old ! It's always been fine, until about 12 days ago. It had just flowered, and everything looked fine.. and then.. over the course of just a few days... it died All the leaves have turned brown/grey and turned to dust Any thoughts ?

Mine isn't that big but does occasionally get like that, I just give it a good trim and watering.....a bit of TLC for a week or two and so far ( fingers crossed) it does the trick. More luck based than knowledge though .

That's strange isn't it roofgardener, perhaps it's just died due to old age? I've got quite a large rosemary plant in the front garden & it's about 3ftx3ft & is about 5 years old & I just give it a trim when it starts to hang over all the other plants. One thing could be if it's been overwatered as the roots can rot or maybe it's been damaged by something around the base or roots that's weakened it?

Thanks for those suggestions, folks. It seems unlikely that there has been any "mechanical" damage to the root system: it is growing in a rockery, so its not like we could have hit it with a lawnmower or anything. I'll try trimming it back as you suggested jellibeans, though I am not optimistic. It was in full flower, with no signs of stress or dehydration or anything. It isn't normally watered; it just survives on rain. Well, it might get a LITTLE bit of water from when my sister waters the adjacent flower beds. My sister DID water it, once it started to turn black, but it hasn't made any difference. We'll try cutting it back and watering it some more.
