I took some sick grape leaves to a professional gardener on Sunday at a Village Gardens Open Day and found that they had mealy bug. He recommended Provado, but the nursery did not stock this (has it been banned?) so I googled and bought Provanto Ultimate Bug Killer. I hope this is the right pesticide. It appeared the vine was struggling next to a hot wall in a sheltered area. Advice is welcome.

Can't offer advice on this pesticide Cherry. I've just recently bought a grape vine, now planted against the fence in a warm spot. Not sure if its in the right place so have left it in its terracotta pot. Ideally I would have liked it in the greenhouse but with the roots planted outside, which is not possible. I will be keeping my eye on the plant in case I get mealy bug too !

At least my post helped you to place your vine Lou. It has not been too hot, so I haven’t moved it yet. There is plenty of air being forced through and behind it today!

I suppose the deciding factor when choosing a pesticide for grapevine is if the vine is ornamental or for grapes to eat or make wine.

Actually I am growing it to make Dolmades sweetpea. Ha ha, you didn’t think of that.
