Well, here we are in 2020, and its been an action-packed year so far. And we're only into day 6 !!
2019 was a bit of an experiment for me; the first time I'd had to look after an actual GARDEN, with soil n' tha'. Of course, I've got a patio, so I COULD use my plantpots. But mostly it was planting things in soil beds, and seeing what happened.
But no more... now I understand it, I have A PLAN !
In addition, there have been major changes to the Polytunnel.
Photographs (and possibly even a video) to follow this coming weekend. (11th/12th January).
Well, while I'm waiting for the video to bake, a couple of bird-related thingies.
Firstly.. I saw a small bird on my lawn two days ago. It was the size of a small female blackbird, but there was something odd about the way it moved. Quick, jerky movements. It reminded me of a Robin Redbreast, as did its shape, but - of course - no Robin could be that big.
And then it turned round to face me and - to my astonishment - it WAS a Robin. A GIANT robin. I've never seen its like before, either in my garden, or anywhere else. Perhaps I have a mutant Robin in my garden ?
The second bird that amused me was yesterday. It landed at around 10:00 on Sunday morning, and hopped around gently, picking up seeds from the ground. Hop. Peck. Hop. Peck.
After a while, it flew away.
And then it came back again. And again. And again. Over the course of the next 5 hours, it completely hoovered up around the bird table. It would occasionally disappear for 15 minutes, but then be back again for another 45 minutes of intense hoovering. I've never seen a bird quite so determined to get EVERY last seed, every last lump of bread, every last crumb of fat cake.
But here's the thing.. it never jumped up onto the bird table. It was ONLY interested in stuff on the ground. (which the other birds had kindly scattered around while foraging on the official bird table).
I don't know what type of bird it IS... can any of you identify it for me ? It's slightly bigger than a house sparrow, but smaller than a female blackbird.
