Old Man's Beard? Is that what T&M called it? That's the name used for the native plant that grows in the hedgerows. I can't think that you'd have ordered one of them - or that T&M sell them. It should have a name...

That is lovely Floydie and it will be so small this will need potting up, maybe until next spring. I am a bit cross at T&M for their common name, because 'Old Man's Beard' refers to the wild clematis in the hedgerows as Geranium said. Would you rather call it Old Man's Beard or Empress? It looks like an Empress to me.

Its fluffy so perhaps thats were the beard comes from??? Old mans beard is what I remembered it as thats all . Its in a terracotta pot and growing very well (Like made) up the drain pipe .

I too can see a parallel will an 'old Man's Beard' but it reminds me more of 'Traveler's Joy' whatever it's a beauty when in seed too.

This may be a daft question but are there any nicely scented clematis? I want scented climber around my sitooterie, i have roses ready to plant, but want other nice stuff too. ;D
