Thank you Cherry and SueA I've never tried sowing the seeds SueA but I have taken lots of cuttings, they're easier and quicker. I may try the seeds sometime if I get around to it.

I was able to remove the fake flowers from my cacti - after 3 years since we bought them for our granddaughter! Even though Cacti can withstand neglect well they still nearly died on her. Our daughter looked after them a little but in the end she gave them to me. Then a few months later my granddaughter gave me the few she still had left.
And this is what they look like today:
