Last summer Steve its was at its best year and really thought it was going to flower.
It is yellow but it lost tall its leaves to the strong winds.

Mine looks like yours, Kath - I was hoping it would flower this year, but I can't imagine that happening. I don't know what colour mine is - it was a gift.

I've had my tree peony for about 10 years, it first flowered in its 4th year with a couple of blooms and each year since it has had more flowers. This year it has 14 buds. When it was small I covered it with a fleece wigwam during the winter but I haven't done this for the last few years and it doesn't seem to have suffered. I notice that this year for the first time it has some new shoots coming on the the old wood lower down.

Mine isn't a single 'stick' this year - there are shoots from the base. I thought that was a good sign!

Definitely a flower bud, mine is flowering and it started like that, takes a few weeks to open though from that stage
