I`m wondering what this tree is. The seed heads are fluffy but the leaves don`t look like anything I recall planting though it is very well established and I don`t know how I`d miss an unwanted tree seedling . Any ideas ?

could be goat willow ladybird they self seed easily and are very hard to get rid of, I planted one in my garden not knowing what it was and it took over, had it cut down last year and it's still shooting from the remains

I have that in garden covered in catkins which are falling all over my seed bed. I'm probably wrong but I thought it was an alder, (alnus)

I've got one which I think is a goat willow in a large pot behind the arbour which suddenly appeared in a pot that contained a forsythia - when I noticed it it had already got to about 4ft tall, I've kept it for now but if it starts to sprout seedings everywhere I might end up getting rid of it.

looking at pictures I think its a willow as grindle suggested, a goat or a grey willow, as they have the same fluffy seeds . I do hope I can get rid of it, apparently it will regrow if cutting it down and the branches root easy if left on the ground . I`m still finding roots popping up of that damson tree I removed and treated the stump.
