sweetpea I know October is the ideal time for sowing sweet peas, but with moving house and urgent work needed to be done (Still not a good enough excuse is it?), I just sowed mine today. I have not got a greenhouse yet, so I have put the pots on the window ledge in the house. I thought I would let them ‘just’ germinate and then put them out under polythene which would be a thick bag actually. Should I put them outside in a sheltered position before germination? Could you let me have your thoughts on this please? I thought better now than in spring.

Cherry, I would say that, as long as they don`t get frozen, they could be put outside with no worries. Obviously, if a hard frost is forecast then cover them.

Thank you for the advice daitheplant. I can see the reasoning behind this answer and as the agapanthus are still actually blooming and coming out, and other slightly tender plants still enjoying shelter and sun, I think I will do this tomorrow. Should I cover them for a while to start them off?

How cold is it where you are?

7 or 8 deg 9 next Sunday and no frosts forecast. The weather changed yesterday to this cold spell, and that is why I am cross at myself for not sowing these seeds during the last 2 weeks.

The forecast isn`t too good for the next few days, so play it by ear.
