I was tidying up one of the very shady borders today and when I dragged some dead foliage across I saw a flash of orange. on closer inspection it was a female smooth newt. I know you are not meant to handle them but she was in danger of getting damaged. So wearing gloves I moved her to the pond wall, took her photo and watched as she dived in and swam down out of sight. Why Tiny? She is 'My newt' This is the 'Shed bed' where I found her. Its called the shed bed as at the far end is a shed. I am very literal at times

good job you saw it, I've often found them tucked under leaves and pots and had to move them

Yes I usually find the toad in the leaf litter too. Keep finding a single female wether its the same one all the time I don't know. Don't know how long newts live for.

She's beautiful, it's lucky that you'd didn't accidentally stab her with whatever you were using to tidy up seaburn, glad she's O.K. I don't think we have any newts in our garden, I've never seen one anyway but we have lots of frogs.

Moved a tray of plants today and found a young newt, very small so I suspect only just left the pond this year. popped safely into the borders. I'll add a photo latter when the camera battery has recharged.

Wonder if it's one of Tiny's babies?

Could well be but we have fish in the pond. May have come from one of the neighbours ponds as I know they dont have fish.
