My happy story story(!) has once again taken a nosedive! The "wilt" has reasserted itself once again & all the side shoots that were doing so well have been struck again!
But even so I found 2 ripening tomatoes on the plant nearest to the door out onto the balcony! There are a few green ones as well.

Balc2, Going by the last image, it looks as if the plants have powdery mildew.

daitheplant No they don't have powdery mildew. It's just an artefact of the light in the camera. They come out much greyer than they are in reality. I took some more photos of them today, see if these are any better.
My first, & probably last, harvest this year!!!

I'm sorry about your tomatoes balc2 I don't think it's a tomato year, I've got rid of mine, I had a total of four minute ones. There are a few on the outdoor cherry ones though.

I'm sorry about your tomatoes balc2 I don't think it's a tomato year, I've got rid of mine, I had a total of four minute ones. There are a few on the outdoor cherry ones though. Sorry to hear that! I would have thought that this year would have been an ideal year for them...It's been very hot & sunny, just the sort of conditions they like.
Mine have been the worst I've ever grown I think in the 20 years I've been growing them on the balcony. I don't understand what could have gone wrong. My son is growing the 2 tomato plants I gave him back in May this year & they are growing very well. I was able to harvest about a kilo from those two plants plus another that he bought already growing. That's probably at least 10 times more than I've got from 10 surviving plants on our balcony!!!
I'm still letting mine grow in hopes of getting some fruit perhaps before the growing season comes to an end in October.

Ours have been pretty good apart from the one tall one which snapped off at about 2 foot in height. Not that I can take any credit, I don't grow them, the Boss does that.

Although my tomatoes are still not growing strongly I keep watering & feeding them as lots of sideshoots are growing & there is still time to get more fruit - if they survive - as they are cherry tomatoes. As I was watering them today with tomato feed I noticed a splash of red, when I looked closer I found that there were half a dozen tomatoes over three plants.
I think that makes 13 in all up to the present!

Some of the sideshoots I'm leaving to grow are getting quite big now I'm still hoping the few green toms will ripen & that more will set! To that end I continue to water & feed them - all's not lost yet!

Take the side shoots out to allow the main crop increases in size.

Picked my first 3 Shirley tomatoes yesterday, I'd labelled the plant Moneymaker by mistake, we had them on B.L.T. sandwiches made with Richmond meat free bacon, gives you the smoky taste & texture, & the tomatoes were lovely. My tomatoes haven't been very good this year, only had a handful of Gardner's Delight & Ildi so far but there should be some more late comers. It's been too hot in the greenhouse, tomatoes don't flower or set very well if the temperature goes over about 35C & it's been 45C for days on end during the heatwaves even with the vent & doors open & some shading & the cucumbers in there have been a disaster as well, only 1 mini cuke so far, I sowed another mini cucumber plant a few weeks ago which I'm hoping will produce something if the weather stays fine for a while.

They look lovely and tasty. I made soup today with some of mine that had split. I grew Ailsa Craig as my salad tom, an old variety with a good taste and they crop well.

Take the side shoots out to allow the main crop increases in size. Not worth it! The toms are cherry ones - Gardener's Delight - which don't get very big. I'd rather have a greater number of small tomatoes than none at all! Anyway with more sideshoots there is more opportunity of getting more flowers & hopefully more toms! The plants are still hanging in there even if they still continue to wilt at a certain height - which is probably the strangest thing about this "Wilt"! While the sideshoots continue to grow I shall continue to water & feed them.
I've just remembered that in one of the 3 growbags I had to remove white mushrooms or toadstools or whatever the white fungi may be! Not seen any more since & unfortunately I didn't get a photo either. I just pulled them out without a 2nd thought!
