Our water butt is now empty from toping up the pond, inevitably. I've had some tap water standing in a tug for 48 hours to dechlorinate it, although I understand there will still be metals and additives remaining which feed algae? I did a search, and found products that seem to contain vitamin C, which claim to remove everything immediately. Does anyone have experience of such products, or other tips? Thanks.

I don't usually bother doing anything when I top up the pond. Direct from the tap. The only time I leave it to stand for 24hrs is if the pond has been totally emptied. The fish live in a paddling pool at that point.
We have some fish that are over 20 years old and i cant say i have noticed any harm come to the fish or the other invertebrates that live in the pond..

my pond is now full after the last few weeks of rain. In fact the overflow bit is emptying into the raised bed next to the pond.
