I had to show you this miracle, it is an Umbrella plant (Cyperus alternifolia) it is the scraggiest thing you are likely to see but it is alive. I had a massive one in the pond, kept a tiny bit and composted the rest, it died over winter. Grindle also gave me one in a pot which I kept in the conservatory over winter, it died too. While I was digging compost out of the bin I noticed a tiny this green shoot, it has been in the center of the compost heap all winter and it is still alive. That is indeed a wee miracle, the heap must have been warm enough for it to survive. Fabuolus

My Sophora is putting on a lot of leaf now, it is shooting right to the tips. I noticed the first sign of life in the Bougainvillea too.

I was pleased the Sophora was ok it's been outside all winter in a container, so it must be hardy ;D

Perhaps I won't pamper mine so much, it would be a lot easier if it would live outside all year.

it was in a sheltered corner near a wall, so that probably helped, I know the large Sun King is pretty hardy, so I would think this one is too

I noticed something very interesting here recently ...... the 2 Ugni's i have came through those -12 winter temps just fine, however, i think it has affected their tolerance to drought. In the past week one of them has lost a third of its fresh growth and has died back to crispness, in the 4 years they've been in the ground they've not done this once and i'm thinking that the only difference this year is the winter temps. I wonder if this type of behaviour pattern happens I've given them good soakings since so their fate now is in the lap of the gods !
