I'll have to go & check my Kojo no mai grindle, I haven't noticed any signs of flowers yet though. I think the weather has had an effect on hellebores here this year, the more sheltered ones in the front garden are O.K. but in the back the combination of heat, cold & flooding seems to have hammered some of them.

Today I discovered some blue crocuses starting to open but not in the pots on the balcony railings as I had expected but in 3 different pots on the balcony floor. I took some photos but I haven't done anything with them yet. Perhaps tomorrow.

I love Iris and I manage to have something of interest with them all year round. January to probably, March I. unguicularis is in flower. This is Peloponnese Snow. From February I. lazica is flowering too. Several I reticulata types are also doing their thing. DS Dijt and Lion King [though I think it was mis-named and is in fact Purple Hill. It is much larger that most retics.] There are plenty of plants starting to put on a show but enough for now.

Here are the blue Crocuses I took some pictures of a few days ago. I was removing greenflies from the sprouting buds in the pots in rings on top of the balcony railings when I discovered several more pots with blue buds about to open! We only need a warm sunny day for them to open & I'll get some more pictures!

Thanks balc2 & grindle, I'm surprised at how well the hellebores that got through winter are doing & the crocuses along the edges of the lawn - although I have lost some of the crocuses which were at the wetter far end of the garden. The snowdrops are all going over now & there didn't seem to be as many of them as usual so I may buy some more 'in the green' ones.

My two plants of Clivia have now finished flowering & the flowers are dropping off yet - amazingly - they look as if they had just this minute been picked even though some of them have been on top of the compost for 2 or 3 days!
I shall move them back out on to the balcony in a couple of months time when frost is no longer expected - & if it so happens a frost is predicted I can always bring them inside during the night & put them back out the next day.
