Has anyone found a good reliable peat free compost and do you add anything to it, this is my third try, the first two have been absolute rubbish, I'm now on Jacks Magic, one I always used to use but is now PF but I'm keeping fingers crossed this one's ok

Not joking but if you have a Poundland anywhere near you? They do a 40 Litres for 3.50 usually on pallets outside the door, I bought one of these when I needed some and couldn’t get to the garden centre and was very surprised with the quality! Bought many more since

I should have said it isn’t PF but states it has peat from sustainable managed sources? So I would think that should be disappearing too soon

I've ben using Wilko's compost for many years & has always given me good results. It's not peat free as it says on the bag that it contains 40% peat.

I've used New Horizon peat free in the past & it's usually O.K. but can be a bit hit & miss. Last year I used B&Q own brand peat free grow bags & they were awful - never had such bad results with tomatoes & cucumbers but it could have been partly due to the weather. I used some peat free from the Lake District a couple of years ago with sheep wool in it which was quite good but expensive, can't remember the brand. This year I'm trying Miracle Gro Peat Free which seems O.K. so far, I'm not keen on it having added chemicals in but it does mean you don't have to add anything to it. 🙄😊

thanks for your comments, seems it's pretty much hit and miss with any one of them, Poundland and Wilko sound good but too far away in Plymouth which I don't drive to just bus. Doesn't seem like anyone round here is selling anything other than peat free  |

My Peat free compost is also Miracle Gro. I can't see that it's got any chamicals in it, appart from Nitrogen, Phosphorus etc which the plants need anyway.

I've thought about getting Miraclegrow growbags for my tomatoes this year. I will have to wait a few more weeks as there is no room at present for anything else on the balcony until I can take down the mini-greenhouse & the table it sits on.
