Some years ago, possibly 9 or 10, one of my brothers ordered some rose seeds online from China. When he got them he decided to share some with me & so we both sowed them on the same day. Unfortunately none of his germinated & only one of mine came up. I managed to keep it alive for its first year in a pot but later I planted it out in a big square tub on the balcony. It took about 4 years before I saw the first flowers & I almost dug it up & threw it away but now I'm glad I didn't give in to that impulse because for at least the last 5 years it's produced these beautiful butter yellow flowers during the last days of April & the first days of May each year.
A lady on another gardening forum identified it for me a few years ago but somehow I've since lost its name so I refer to it as the "Chinese Rose" because of where the seeds came from.

Thank you, SueA! Glad you like it! It lights up the balcony just after the Daffodils have finished & being a paler yellow than most Daffodils it sort of makes the transition to the summer flowering plants a little easier!

Although the Easter Cactus flowers don't last even a week they are really lovely to look at & I look forward to seeing them every year! They have a habit of closing up at night & opening once again the next day!
This is a cutting that I took perhaps 2 years ago which has now flowered for the first time. It only produced two flowers but I'm looking forward to seeing more next year as it has now finished flowering for this one.

When I visit my son in Scotland, I bring home a bag of plants on the train. They come from Abriachan Nurseries, which have a stall on the square in Elgin. Trilliums and Rodgersias are good buys here. They don’t know how lucky they are in Elgin, as ours seem to be all the same sort of garden centre with a restaurant. Unfortunately, Abriachan have stopped their mail order side of the business. They are next to Loch Ness.

My Orchids are starting to flower again this year. This particular one must be 4 or 5 years old by now. I have 2 others, one in bud & the other one struggling to keep alive. I repotted all 3 of them in Orchid compost a couple of months ago & it seems to have done them well!
