Lovely Lewisias, Eli! I saw them for the first time about 5 years ago when we went to our daughter's place in a village about five miles from here. There was a plant sale on & as we were going to her house to celebrate my birthday with the gkids, she offered to pay for any plants I might like to buy there. While I was having a look around to see what was on offer I came across a plant stall that had these for sale. I'd never grown them before & I was tempted to get a couple of plants but in the end decided on 4 Pelargoniums (which I still have - well cuttings from them anyway!)

When I got home I looked them up on the internet & after reading about their care I thought I had probably made a good decision not buying them as I doubt they would have lasted nearly as long as the Pelargoniums I bought. Still. I've continued to like them & maybe one day I'll get myself a plant for the balcony & try & give it the conditions it needs.

Eli about the reflection in your picture, it brought to mind a photo (real, paper photo!) my wife took of me when we lived in Spain. WE had been to visit some cousins of hers in a village about an hour away by train. As we were coming back I fell asleep on the train but my wife remained awake & used our 35mm film camera to take a picture of me while I was sleeping! Only it turned out rather different to what she expected! She didn't realize the roll of film had finished & that I hadn't rolled it back into its cannister. She took a picture & when we got the film developed there was a picture of me over a picture of my Amaryllis! Like your reflection I looked like a ghost floating over the flowers!!!

Yesterday I did some watering of the flowerbeds in the church gardens. The Cosmos are starting to flower & there are lots of flowers on the French Marigolds which seem to last a long time as I haven't had to do much deadheading of them since they started to flower. Just the opposite with the Calendulas which are not growing nearly as well as I had hoped! The Dahlias I planted in a triangular raised bed are coming into flower now & they are sooo much better there than they had been the 3 years they were growing on the balcony!
