This was climbing the wall today. We brought some with us when we moved. They seem to have survived.

I'm glad to see you have grasshoppers, I haven't seen one for years. When we lived in another place there were lots of them and a cat we had then used to catch them and crunch them like sweets

Oddest thing is that here we never hear them, but at our previous garden their chirruping was fairly constant.

It's pretty rare to see them around here. In the l-o-n-g park alongside the river here I have seen one of two but that's an exception rather than the rule.
When I was growing up as a boy in London we (my brothers & I) were finding them everywhere, even in our back garden we used to find a few! In our local park we could find them very often & on some "bomb sites" we would hunt for them on our way to the park or return.
