I know what this is Merlin. It's the reproductive structures of Mares Tail (Equisetum arvense).

Don't worry I haven't got it, it's in the hedge up the lane. It only arrived when the farmer filled a large ditch. It's the other side of the lane and about 100yds away but I think I'll go and chop down as much as I can. The bad/worrying thing is that it's to the N/W of me where the prevailing wind comes from Geranium, arn't you glad you don't grow it ;D
