Just a query ...... I saw that there were 6 people online and when i looked at the boards it showed that there were 2 people 'viewing' ....... So what were the others doing, where were they  |

In MSN it tells you who's on line (gererally) and also whether you're available to chat.....I think ! Maybe it's the same, does that make sence?

I wonder how long a user name stays on the board for? We've discovered in another thread that few of us log out so I presume the user name disappears if no action is made after a period of time.
After I've made my last post I don't log off I just shut my laptop. I presume my user name will remain on the board for a length of time even though I am no longer there.

WF, I've seen others just close the laptop lid but I'm nervous about that. I use it quite a lot so it would be simpler to just close the lid but is it OK to do that, does it just go into stand-by?

If you look at the home page at the bottom you will see the 'active users in the last 24 hours'. If you are not active in the forums after that time then your name comes off.

I'm chuckling away at your question because I have no idea what happens when I just close the lid, this is my first lap top and I didn't know what else to do. I presume it goes into sleep mode, when I open it up again, it takes a short while to come back to life and then everything is the same as it was. I haven't found the 'off' button yet. |

Do you want to know, Wf? On mine, I click on 'start' on the screen, which brings up a choice of 'stand by' or 'turn off'. I usually press 'standby' which keeps all the programs as they were, but sends the laptop to sleep.  |

Should I be doing one of those instead of just shutting the lid? I have to say I do like the ease of just shutting the lid and walking away.

I think so, Wf - I do close it all down sometimes, if I'm going out for long, or away, for example.
