I bought a huge chunk of ginger from the supermarket the other day - it looked like it wanted to grow - so I used what I needed and have plonked the bit that looks like it wants to grow into a pot. Has anyone done this with any success? I've no idea which way is up - no change there then ;D

I tried it once Piskie, with not much success. Just lay the piece of root on the surface of compost, its roots will find its own way. I managed to get some leaves to grow but then it just frizzled away. I think they need lots of bottom heat to grow properly. Good luck with it anyway ;D

Usually you can spot a bud forming on the top even in supermarkets, it is a very tender plant though
