How Lovely Derek, we have blackbirds and tits nesting in 2 leylandii's at the side of the flower garden, the crows keep trying to get in but the branches won't hold their weight which i am very pleased about.

We have a lot of fledglings at the feeders now. I wonder if your Great tits will have another brood as it is still so early.

Some good pics there D. My only sight of a kingfisher was at a small river called the Hogsmill in Surrey. Only a few hundred yards from the A3, the busiest A road in the country.

I have told you before that Rosemary and me go round Blackleach country park at weekend every two weeks and make a list of all the wild flowers we find and count the number of birds of each kind. I thought I would try and tell you the new wild flowers each time we go but I don,t know if I will be able to keep it up all year.Up to last weekend we have listed 52 .Last weekend there were 22 in flower that weren,t 2 weeks ago. They were---rape,wood avens, stinging nettle, cleavers, yellow iris, bramble, lesser stitchwort, red and white clover, broad leaved dock, snowberry, birds foot trefoil,ox eye daisy, ragged robin, elder, dog rose, lupin, meadow cranesbill, bistort, hop trefoil, common sorrel and silverweed.

We have a blackbirds nest in our ivy containing 5 eggs. This is the pairs third brood. The first was in next doors camellia and the second was in ivy in next doors garden on the other side. This is the first blackbirds nest we have had. When we moved into this house nearly 53 years ago I wasn't interested in gardening but I had been interested in birds since I was a child. One thing that attracted me was a hawthorn hedge along the bottom of the garden which I thought was ideal for blackbirds nests.53 years later there has NEVER been a blackbirds nest in this hedge and the one in the ivy is the first.
