Did any of you watch the Horticultural channel where he was given a hive of bumble bees for the allotment? We keep being told to create habitats and encourage bees ect, so I was interested in the box of bees (no honey) but pollination. Just looked up the scheme Beepol on line and the cheapest I could find it was £68 for the hive in a cardboard box and £124 in the wooden lodge both + P&P. I don't think I will be getting one. why if its to promote the Bumble Bees is it so expensive, just another case of a company cashing in on peoples sense of caring for the environment

My neighbour sold one of her hives last week, without the hive, and got £70 for it. She would have given these bees away, as they have multiplied drastically and she can't manage so many. Obviously that is the going rate for them.

cherry they were probably honey bees which survive the winter and give you honey, bumble bees are just for pollenation and only live for 1 year, they may produce a queen for next year but there are no guarantees
