15 years old that framework Anyway, Phil Kerton says it isn't like any of his sweet peas, is convinvced it's not a "rogue" as all his peas are checked during the season, meaning it could be an F1 hybrid. To my way of thinking, one plant only may be possible if that was the case, but to have at least four seems mathematically unlikely out of the 1000's of peas that are produced as i guess all the seeds of a variety are collected and mixed and then packed. So it looks like i'll have to enter it as a seedling in the shows, and try and save some seed for next year and see what colour it grows. I'll have to make a new bed for them.

If it is then the first generation will all be the same colour. It is only in the second year that the colours break and could be almost anything. This then needs selecting and reselecting to ensure trueness. (If I remember correctly)

Hopefully i'll have one or two to show at Wem and have a word with a few of the top exhibitors to see what they think of it. Knowing my luck though, it'll fall foul to the fungus that hits my sweet peas every August so it'll be academic really

Well done Scrumpy, they're gorgous, the colours are perfect and I envy the length of stem. This year I've grown 'Spencers' as usual but also some I've forgotten the name of. They're here in the room and their perfume pervades the whole house. The flowers are just pink and white.

Thanks, just been away for the weekend, didn't seem many on the plants when we left, but on getting back there were loads to cut. Anyway, heres a litle vase showing all the colours and varieties ready at the moment of them all, the lavender one......zillah harrod, the white one...white frills....and the mid blue one.....karen harrod, all look good and are the best performing ones. The red one, Mark harrod, nice colour but weaker stems, and the salmon pinky one, Heaven scent, again nice colour but weaker stems, are the weakest ones. Just got one more variety to bloom , Sir Jimmy Shand.

Very nice and a good critique too. I like Zillah Harrod very much. I have just wasted five minutes of my life admiring these. It wasn't wasted though. It was relaxing with enjoyment at the beauty.

Beautiful clean colours. That's one reason why I like sweetpeas.

Got a picture now of every variety...9 in all, 6 varieties at home, 3 at the allotment. The ones not seen are from the back right, Sir Jimmy Shand, Anniversary, Eclipse and Millenium. For Wem show, i hope to get something decent from White Frills, Sir Jimmy Shand, Zillah Harrod and Mark Harrod....they look as if they'll still be very strong. Heaven Scent and Karen Harrod should provide the odd bloom for a mixed vase...though you can never tell what will happen in the next 3 weeks. Eclipse, Millenium and Anniversary are being grown as an experiment at the allotment, to see how they do. They'll be shown at Shrewsbury show with a bit of luck.

Looking at the first pic scrumpy there are a couple of faults on the pink heaven scent. Drooping wings and what looks like a fused keel though it is hard to say from tha pic. Only to be concerned about on the showbench though.

You are right about Heaven Scent. Throughout flowering, most of the bottom petals droop long before the top one opens. Probably only had half a dozen decent specimens all season. But it looks nice in a vase and does smell nice. It's a week now till Wem show. Put my entry in. Nice weather and a bit of luck is whats needed now. I pick a good selection every 3 days, so i need that day to be Friday. My stems aren't as long as they should be, but size of flowers and placement are still good. White Frills, Zillah Harrod, Mark Harrod and Sir Jimmy Shand will be the individual colour class entries.
