I didn't rate Salvias thinking of those red bedding ones. But thern Cherry sent me 'Royal Bumble' and I've changed. Fortunately (after last winter) they're easy to take cuttings so I have still got some. I remember on GW they visited the National collection which was amazing and I recall him saying how hardy there are.

Peony the garden looks beautiful. The sunken garden is truly lovely and the pots look great around it. The old one above is just beautiful. I love it all. I could live with all of that.

Thank you Cherry The big old pot was a 50th birthday present and has had plenty of time to acquire its mosses and lichens ;D

I love Salvias, all except the red bedders - I'm glad you and SteveN like my new one. S. nemorosa is central to the planting in the top border...a lovely deep purple. I especially like 'Caradonna' with its dark stems - and , of course, they have a long flowering period - can't be bad. I have a few shrubby ones - I should take cuttings too. When do you take them please, Merlin?
