The garden centres here are not good for unusual plants so I don't feel very inspired. I get reduced prices at the town garden centre which is like an ironmongers, so composts come from here and actually, their plants are the best.

It like that here Cherry, only the occasional unusual plant. The nearest proper nursery is at Letchworth where the plants are good but not a lot of choice, or Hopleys at Ware which is very expensive. I have to use mail order if I want something a bit different.

I think if you really want 'Unusual' p;ants then look no further than Chiltern seeds catalogue where there are a great many. Obviously you need to have patince to grow from seed.

White lodge by Turriff has a good selection of plants, some a bit pricey though. I found out about this place through Margaret (froglady)

I went north on the M5 to the GC up there to get two more Geranium 'Sirak' and a couple of Heucheras. That's a joke - I ended up with a trolley load. Then I went south on the M5 to another GC. The traffic on the other side looked a bit slow, but I got what I wanted - including three BLACK petunias ( ;D) but coming home was a nightmare. My SAT-NAV came into its own, though - magically, it took me off at the next junction and home by another route instead of sitting twiddling my thumbs in three stationary lanes!

I do get seed from Chiltern Seeds SP. Very good germination and, you are right, it is a treasure trove.
Rosie, White Lodge must be good. Margaret had some unusual plants in her garden, all thriving very well, so they were right for the climate and soil.
I can't wait to get to Scotland and there I can buy some more unusual plants, but I cannot afford trolley loads. I only buy two or three.
