WF, I was thinking of you and your lovely conservatory-s while listening to GQT this afternoon. They visited the National Botanic Garden of Wales where an expert described plants that do well in them. There are pic on their web site or you could listen to the repeat on Sunday. Incidentally after 8yrs my Strelitsia has finally flowered, well there are two buds one just beginning to open. It must have heard me threaten to bin it a few weeks back. When they're fully open I'll show you.

Great news that yours is going to flower. Mine loves it in the conservatory and is looking so healthy but it was only young when I bought it so I think I still have a year or two to wait to see a flower. I had a quick look at the web site, I'll have a better look when I have more time. I am finding it very difficult to find plants which like it in the conservatory but don't turn into triffids. I would like to say I'll listen on Sunday but the chance is slim to zero and I'll place my bets on zero

The Strelitsia is the only one that seems to like it. There are one or two that were recommended that I'll try.

Ours faces North so gets warm but not stupidly hot and it does not get full sun. I have beds in there which give the plants plenty of root room, when you give a house plant all the root room it wants it gets massive, I now fully understand when they say jungles are impenetrable. Most house plants I've tried grow the most vicious thorns when the get large. I've found very few plants which stay or can be kept to a manageable size.

That is a lovely Strelitzia reginae. I don't know what language that is because it is a South African native.

Well Merlin it is a beautiful, healthy Strelitzia. That is very well done and took a lot of patience.
