In last week's AG there's four pages on them, lovely pics too. Did you know that in California (where else) there's one planted in 1894 that extends to more than an acre, has more than one million flowers and is estimated to weigh 250 tons ! I have a long boring 6' high fence at the bottom of the garden. I've bought one called 'Lawrence' and I'm hoping that it will extend the whole length, flowers would be a bonus. Actually I'd like your opinion as the fence runs along the south of the garden so it faces north. I thought I'd grow it on a wire along the top and let it dangle

Will they grow facing north, Merlin? I haven't read the article yet, and I haven't grown Wisteria, either. I just had the idea that they needed a S or SW aspect?

Do they grow facing the sun or away from the sun?

I don't really know as I've never had one. You can't see on this pic but I've extended a wire along the top of the fence so hopefully it will wind it's way along left and right. Even if I don't get flowers the foliage will look better than the fence. Maybe I could raise it to hide that 'orible shed.

If you're not sure which it is, if it twines clockwise it's floribunda and sinencis twines anti-clockwise
