I am hoping that WLF dahlias have plenty of buds at least showing some colour now?

I have loads of buds at all different stages. This is the bed. I have buds like this and this and this and loads more coming. I didn't manage a lot of gardening while the family were staying but I did manage to keep up with the de-budding. I had a bit of a hairy moment when my sister offered to help, she isn't the type of person you say no to (unless you have a death wish) or the kind you should allow near a plant. I suggested she picked peas instead which she was happy with.

Looking good WF, pics 3 and 4 are the ones that are more likely for the show, if there is any danger of the blooms being knocked together when they are more mature, try and tie them to one of the canes away from each other, carry on with the vaseline. your dahlias have more class than what i viewed last year on the bench. I must admit i breathed a sigh of relief, when i saw your dahlias, i had visions of getting the timing wrong. Ps don't forget to show us all that dahlia cup.

I'm pleased with them. I can't believe you were really doubting your timing Tel, I knew you'd get it right.

Is this how my flowers should look when they are at their peak? I went to have a practice run today and could only find two matching flowers, I'm not that worried as there are loads of buds coming on. The stems on these two are not hollow, I've put them in water to see how long they last. I will need 'staging' explained to me, I gather I don't just put four flowers in water.

This one is good, you do not want the center of the bloom any bigger than this. The right hand bloom in your pic has a petal that could be removed it is out of line with the rest of the petals near it, The petal is bending to the right.

Is this one of the petals which can be removed 24 hours before the show and the other petals fill the space? It is, it improves the look of the bloom, big show, little show, we try to show our blooms at their best.

Tel, why has my 'Karma Choc' only produced one flower? I can't see any more buds! It's in a pot - it was grown from tubers, not cuttings. Is there anything I can do apart from kick it hard?
