My new Dahlias were really bad - I only got ONE flower on Karma Choc, the other tuber had to be thrown away because it didn't do anything. The old faithfuls like David Howard and Roxy are doing really well, though.

I like Terrycotta. It is proving stable everywhere. Candyblue your dahlias are fabulous and the silverware is a bonus. What a lot of work. Well done you.

I may try that one has a Small Decorative next year if i restrict it further some of the blooms where way over size for a Miniature on the allotment.

Some tubers dont produce anything geranium you would be taking a chance using the same tubers again ,certain varieties can be worse than others, when dug up have a look to see how many eyes are a round the crown.Could you not buy plants of this variety instead of planting tubers and then maybe keep a couple in pots for pot tubers.

Thank you, dc. As I'm just growing dahlias for my borders, I think I'll do as you suggest and look carefully at the tubers. I'll buy new ones for next year. I've never bought plants, only grown them from tubers.

How many tubers will I need to keep to get enough cuttings for next year? I have decided to give some tubers to the opposition, starting with a level playing field will be much more fun.

I would keep a minimum of 4 in case you lose one or two over the winter, especially if we have a winter like the last. I expect they are ground tubers and not pot tubers, so i would start them into growth as early has you can, been ground tubers the first lot of cuttings may be to thick to root. You say you are giving the opposition a level playing field, does that include how to grow them for the show. ;D
