I always think I am doing the dogs out of a treat, but I can't face any more of life in the raw. I used to wash tripes for the dogs in the River Ken when I lived in Galloway. I would leave them in a net in the running water. I just feel I can't fit another thing into my day.
Geranium I phoned the council and the girl advised me to get the RSPCA. I just answered "It's dead." She then found a number for me, but could not promise anything. As if by magic, when I next went up to the road area, it was gone, and I could see the wheel marks where the vehicle drove onto the wide grass verge. We did feel bad getting the council to do this when they are crying poor. Thankyou Geranium.
Must pick my flower for the month for WI and I think it will be an Aconitum. They look good just now.

I'm pleased to hear it's gone, Cherry. We frequently see badgers at the side of the lanes, and also a few foxes. They get removed in a few hours. We don't often see deer, although there are warning signs along the A road.

I suspect the council worker who "removed" the carcase would make a few quid out of it....there are always people who prize a piece of venison

The TB aspect is a tad offputting

True - but all the badgers on 'the site' have been inoculated! They trapped them with peanuts in honey, then gave them a jab and released them again.

Are you sure it was the council who took the deer carcass away? You have to be pretty quick around here to get to a deer first. The OH thought I’d lost the plot the first time I made him stop and load one into the boot, He soon changed his mind when he tried roast venison.
I’ve never tried badger.

The council contract the pickup of roadkill out. We are used to this in this area. The worst was when a mother muntjac was killed leaving a baby in mourning which was born here. I was glad when it rained heavily two nights later, thinking the deer would perish, but it lived and grew to a healthy deer. The crying, which is a strange barking sound, did not stop for a long time.

How very distressing, Cherry! That's another animal we don't get here.

We have lots of muntjacs around here, they live mainly in the nearby woods and on the Forestry Commission land, but its rare to see them killed on the road, although I believe the Forestry Commission cull some every year because we can hear the guns

Horrible - but probably necessary - I believe they can do a lot of damage, can't they?

Horrible - but probably necessary - I believe they can do a lot of damage, can't they? They can Geranium, especially to gardeners, they love the new shoots on roses. In our previous house, our neighbour had a beautiful rose garden established over many years but when the muntjacs arrived in our area, they ruined his roses by continually eating the new shoots. It ended up costing him a fortune to put high fencing up all around his property to try and keep them out, but they even managed to jump his 5' gate and he had to add barbed wire to the top of it. I must admit though I did like to see them especially when they had their fawns with them. They aren't very big, about the size of a large dog, but they can out-run any dog ;D
