I had this old bed base waiting to go to the tip and I wondered how much of it could be reused perhaps in the garden . So I took it apart. There is a lot of wadding, that I can put into a large plastic bag seal and use to cover the compost bin. What looks like coia matting under the wadding can be used for lining baskets. Plenty of good wood ,I used the small bits to light the fire and I`m thinking of making a trolly or cart from the two end pieces to transport trays of seedlings,( still working on the design ) There are loads of metal bits , not too sure how to use these in the garden any ideas ? Any other ideas for any of the above bits would be welcome.

I do like to see these efforts at reusing old things. I am forever getting told off for hoarding 'Rubbish' saying that it will come in useful one day. Would that hook shaped wire be strong enough to hang a hanging basket in the GH? I find the hooks on the basket chains dont go round the struts in the GH roof so have had to use supplementary hooks. Just a thought.
The wooden slats could be made into a small platform with castors fitted underneath to roll things about on.

Can you make a bench/chair?? this is what my dad does with old beds, OH made one too but out of floor boards from the houses that were pulled down behind us. Could you use the metal bits with canes to make plant supports for thick stemmed plants??. or hooks??

If you have an electric drill you could build a house ;D if you remember the old Black & Decker adverts

Good, good, keep the ideas comming. I like the house one SP ;D might need a few more bits though . The cane idea is good Floydie, the thin twisted wire isn`t strong enough to stand on its own, but it would be great for climers with a cane stuck down it`s middle . The hooks are certaintly strong SP, I tried to twist and hammer them thinner but they didn`t budge. Don`t think MY greenhouse is strong enough for them though loads of coia matting and only one basket , ther must be load of used for that ?

The coia matting would be great for wrapping pond plants in. I wrapped the roots and soil of pond lilies up in hessian. It could be good for wrapping plants in for winter protection, I'm thinking of tree ferns, bananas etc. The wadding looks like the capillary matting I use. You could put it in the bottom of trays to help with watering. Wood is just so useful for everything

Ladybird the greenhouse would not be strong enough for baskets. I put three along the centre of the roof area and my husband pointed out that the roof was actually straining. It is similar to yours. He did not see it for ages because he will have nothing to do with the garden.
