I bumped into a bloke this morning who has three cucumber plants in his greenhouse; two are all female and the third is an F1 but is producing male flowers. He looked at the seed packet and it says to leave the male flowers on this particular variety.
The bit we are not sure about is whether these male flowers will pollinate the all female plants and make the cucumbers bitter. What do you think?

Strange the only F1s I can think of that would have males too would be for growing outdoors so they can be insect polinated...has he used an outdoor variety indoors?

If so could still be ok, I'm not sure if the F1 all females are sterile? Steve H might know? if they are then the male flowers on the other plant will make no difference

It is a frightening thought that you can be killed by a cucumber. I checked our fridge, we have half a cucumber left, I hope it didn't come from Spain or Germany. If you never here from me again you'll know why ;D I know I shouldn't joke about this really

I am growing small ones again. I grew them for the first time last year and they were so much better than bought ones. I only have three and one has gone all limp. It has a very tiny white caterpillar on the underside of a leaf. It is so tiny, not everyone would see it, so I don't know whether to blame this or not.

It might need a drink Cherry or it's got to hot.

The plant is not dry, but you could be right so I will go and mist it with the spray from the hose.

The soil could be too wet Cherry, cucumbers are best kept on the dry side especially when they are young. I've lost two through being too wet and they were not drenched.

It hasn't picked up and I have taken it out of the frame now. I will put it back in the greenhouse, which I think is where it should have been with its brothers and sisters. I think I mistook it for a pumpkin and was hardening it off.
