The Dahlia Annual, should be here any day now. My Dahlia Annual arrived today. There is a new dahlia mentioned in the annual, a tulip dahlia may be of interest to a few people that grow one or two dahlias in their gardens. Not a lot of information given about when it will be available, or dimensions of the plants. Taken this pic from the annual you will have to excuse the flash in the pic.

Doesn't do anything for me. Looks like the type to grow in containers, or as a bedding plant.

How tall was the plant when it flowered.....seems very early for it to be in bloom.

I just have 6 Rose Jupiter now they are healthy at the moment.

I would also add to that it's the way they take the cuttings and the tubers they use. Whereas i may grow 6 plants of a variety, if only one of them looks and flowers well then i will only use that plant for cuttings. I won't use the other plants, and that is why i don't use pot tubers. If you are growing for the mass market then such care is not taken. This may not be the case for Richard, .../quote] Seems to me it is common sense to dump any plants that do not perform as they ought to, apart from the supply to customers they form my next year's crop as well! Have to say that it is very difficult with weak cultivars as they, often, are popular as well. I've dropped Cream Beauty as it is so inconsistent, a great bloom when good but very weak and tends to "daisy eye".

Covers over the giants/mediums gone up today. They are the only ones i cover. Heavy rain forecast the next few days i believe, as long as it stops by Monday i won't mind. Lots of buds opening all over the garden, so many new varieties grown this year it'll be interesting to see what they look like. They are smalls Ruskin Andrea, 6 plants, looks like 6 different colours, all going to go oversize Oretti Bliss, here is the description... Small Cactus Superb white blooms, excellent form, strong stems. And what we have are more cream than white, with one plant out of 6 producing decent stems Brabarry Melody, well what a nightmare to grow, but have managed to restrict it to 6 buds per plant. Ryecroft Brenda T, should get a 5 from it. Ryecroft Zoe, my only chance of getting a 5 for the small cactus from the new ones. Mediums Dikara Moon, should get 3, but nowhere near the size i was expecting. Ryecroft Rebel, i have 3 buds only that have a chance of being ready, thanks to the fact that they sent me something else, from which i should have lots ready Ruskin Bride, well after all the fuss i should get a good 3. And finally, Susan Gilliott, should get a nice 3, but it looks at the moment quite broad leaved for a cactus, hoping it'll tighten up as it nears full size. The idea this year is to show people as many different varieties as possible, and most of the above will go in the 3 vase classes. My regular varieties will go in the individual vase classes. Well, that's the theory and everything may change ;D

Am still awaiting a reply. Perhaps they don't like a bit of criticism. I will follow it up nicely on Thursday ;D
