Just spoke to Halls, they do know that they have mixed up rebel and magnum. Also spoke about the general state of cuttings and like everyone they said they had a bad year for storing tubers and used every method possible to complete orders. They use something called hammer cuttings that involves usining the stem and leaf and those are what i had quite a lot of. Oretti Bliss they thought they had rogued out the problem plants...like i had....but had to use pot tubers as well as field for cuttings, so therein lies the problem. Ruskin Andrea, they have never seen one the colour i have. They say they do rogue out all plants 3 times a year meaning in the Autumn only the best are used for the following season and all their plants are consistent. I think he'll be having a more careful look this year He was very apologetic and welcomed feedback as without it they don't know they have problems. So all in all, doesn't help me much for this year, but next year and careful selection from what i have will hopefully sort out all the above.

All tying up finished apart from kiwis which I need to strip all of the basel growth from first .Started disbuding tonite, everything is looking well, got myself a little behind what with going away for a few days and doing 12 hour shifts at work but hopefully the weather will be kind this weekend and I can get caught back up.Covers will be going on in the next 7/10 days.Looks like its going to be a race between brenda t and blyton softer gleam to flower first.

I am entering my first show of the season this weekend and I have a few dahlias but not really enough .I have some Hy fashion and L,ancresse but not enough to choose from to match the vases but they will go in.I have a decent 3 cream moonlight but there is no class for mediums so I will put them in the class for "any other classification"I should get a decent vase of Taratahi Ruby. There is a class for 2 blooms in separate vases so I may have a chance in that.

Stripped all the basel growth from the Kiwi's yesterday. Did some disbudding, there where quite a lot of earwigs hiding in the top growth on the plants, it must be a good year for them, but not for a dahlia grower.

Gonna strip my kiwis today and get them tied up tel then go through and have a good disbud and then another spray of fungus clear ultra.Should be where I want to be for this time of the year by then. Was hoping to have a lot to choose from for harrogate I have been knocking things back for a couple of weeks now but there comes a time when you just have to let them go or you will end up with everything flowering to late.Planted through mypex for the first time last year and flowered 2 weeks earlier than I normally would have, looking at things this year proballys gonna be flowering 7/10 days later than that so fingers crossed. My mate phil watson got me some new covers yesterday when he got his own and they will be going up next weekend .Also bought some split canes, twist ties and a 20 block box of oasis.

I could do with new covers, the ones i have are old and dirty now, but funds are telling me no, you will have to make do with what you have got. I have knocked back a few varieties, because they are too early, but like you say DC there comes a time to stop knocking back or you will have a great show in mid Oct. ;D

I wonder how Dahliaman Paul is getting on. I've heard that Winchester Growers in Cornwall has not opened their dahlia fields to visitors this year,as they only have about half a dozen plants in bloom. This will not do their sales very much of a favour Hope Paul is not experiencing the same
