Has anyone used Nematodes in their gardens? We're seriously thinking of paying out and drenching the lawns with them, to kill off the chafer grubs. I'm pretty sure that the badgers and lately, the rooks, have been digging for them.
Because of the large lawned areas, it's going to cost - but it'll be worth it if it stops all the damage.
Any thoughts please?

i used them for carrot root fly last year.....i didn't get any, but i used mesh as well. However, the slugs seemed to enjoy them so i'm trying anti slug nematodes this year all over the allotment. Think it cost £16 for 2 treatments. I'll know if it's worked when the wife cuts the cabbage....they are usually full of them

I am using them this year Geranium, was sick of my brassica's ending up like lace curtains. The caterpillars were early this year and I have noticed a marked difference. I would go for it

Geranium I've always been put off by the cost but it seems that it would work. I'd be worried that they would recolonize from the surrounding area though.

I've just been reading up on 'Cockchafers' The more I learn about 'bugs' the more I wonder why we bother gardening ! maybe studying bugs would be a better pastime, no shortage of samples to study.

For some reason, I've had two days without any rooks, but today they've been back, and I'll have many, many holes to fill if/when the rain stops. I just can't cope with it any longer. If the Nematodes do their stuff, maybe I'd buy some time? It is going to be expensive, but I think if it works, it'll be worth it.

Les, you'll need to research it, cos there are all different ones for different pests. They're all watered on a different times of year, too. I googled 'Nematodes'. Quite a lot of 'fun' reading! ;D
Oooh, Peony - I can't kill worms, so I'll have to risk that.
