Last year i bought and planted a miniature rose called Flirt - a pretty pink rose. This year though it is red ! each and every single bloom is pillar box red, there's not a hint of pink anywhere - why does this happen ? ? ? I really don't like red plants and this happening to this rose has me a bit miffed Can you add anything to the soil, or any other devious plan to get it back to pink ?

Thats a bit of a "bummer" Louise.....perhaps its a variety that has "reverted"....it is supposed to be a fairly new variety?

Could it be the label that's wrong?

In answer to your question about changing the colour, I don't think you can, Louise. I don't know of anything for roses - hydrangeas, yes. Roses though - That's really strange! Could it be flowers from below the graft point?

How do you know it's pink? I've googled it and it looks more red than pink......to me ;D Sometimes labels fade.

Merlin, i bought it last year and last year it was a pretty pink colour as depicted on the label and all the stockists info. I've since googled for more info and there can be 3 reasons for roses changing colour - apparently it's quite a common thing and one of the reasons given is a period of very cold temps ..... so i imagine that's the reason because this region never sees anything like minus 12 and we did last year.

How interesting - we learn something new every day! Annoying for you, though.

It depends on how well established the roots are ! If i could replace it with a pink one i will but if the roots are too happy i'll have to live with it, i'll have to muster up the enthusiasm to start ferreting about in the undergrowth now.

Well that's a new one on me, never too old to learn. I recon I'll have to live 'till 150 to know all there is to know about Roses. I do know one thing though, They're me favourite Come to think of it, I have a 'Coconut ice' that can't make it's mind up if it's pink or white, mostly a bit of both.
