Thanks for recommending Country Garden Roses Merlin! We went there today & I've never seen so many roses in one place before, I was really spoilt for choice but ended up buying a 'Compassion' (Derek's suggestion I think) as it was healthy looking, hardly any thorns & had a beautiful scent, it's slightly on the peachy side of pink but still a lovely colour. 4 saxifraga 'White Pixie' fell into my 'basket' as well, to go in the corners of the bed for the rose. We had tea & a scone/millionaire shortbread at the cafe & if the sun had shone it would have been perfect, birds singing everywhere. We didn't make it as far as Shrewsbury though as we got stuck in traffic going to Hadnall, then diverted & I spent ages walking round sniffing every rose on sale! Called in a nice farm shop 'Maynards' on the way home too. Here's a pic. of the house & tiny bit of rose sales area & one of the rose I bought.

So glad you enjoyed it Sue, we go even if we aren't buying.....though we usually do ! The owner is called John and used to be a Jocky, he's always telling jokes, I couldnt remember the one he told me about the talking dog so I looked it up.....he told it better though. fishtownchatter.blogspot.com/2006/01/talking-dog-joke.htmlIt's not a well known place, we only found it after being told by a local (in the pic) while admiring a nearby field of Poppies, back in 2006

Like the joke ;D, we were admiring the cat asleep on the grass & the lady on the till (presumably the owner's wife) was saying to another lady that he'd caught a stoat the other day & was told he's only supposed to catch rats & mice, it was funny because just round the corner on the way out a stoat ran across the road in front of the car, luckily we missed it!

It's all happening in Hadnall, it will be headlines in the local rag tomorrow ;D

I've planted the rose & other plants in the old veg. bed now, the rose looks a bit lost at the moment & I've put lots of little sticks in to stop the cats digging everything up. There are lavenders, box & saxifragas in there as well as a fake tortoise! ;D
