Same here Geumlover & grindle, I dug a hole for the new tree but came across what looks like some kind of ancient rusty pipe at the bottom of the hole & wasn't sure whether to risk planting there. O.H. was away so I left it for a second opinion & it hasn't stopped raining since so no progress on anything in the garden.

Not exactly wot I have done.....more of a supervisory role. Gardener came and did my jobs straight away i.e removed an old trellis holding up too many plants!...dug one of them out (a 20 yr old var. jasmine; also dug out a japenese weeping large that has got beyond itself...looking more like a tatty birds nest!. He trimmed the top of the hawthorn hedge and cut back a large fuchsia. I can now get some tangled plants sorted and paint the rest of the fence behind the mess!

O.H. was away so I left it for a second opinion & it hasn't stopped raining since so no progress on anything in the garden. We have had 4 days tropical rain. This means a creek was running down the middle of the complex on the concrete path and a drain needed cleared at the top of the hill. It is like a bucket of rain all at once. The garden looks better, however, and the frangipani is out all over the island.

Don't envy you that Cherry, it looks a beautiful place where you are but some very extreme weather. Not sure what to do yet grindle, if it's an active pipe it could go right along the back of the garden parallel to the fence where I want the tree to go so could be a problem, I might ask the neighbour next to us who has been here a long time to see if he's come across a pipe at the end of his garden but he's away at the moment. Can't get a proper look at the pipe yet as the hole I dug filled up with rain! Could just be a bit of pipe which was dumped down there with the rest of the rubbish/concrete/bricks/plastic etc. Only opened the greenhouse door & mini greenhouse & fed the birds as everywhere is still very wet & more rain due.

Windy today, but we did manage to clear away a lot of the rubbish from Ophelia. Lots of firewoood for us. It left a big hole. More stumps to saw. No place to put this until I have shredded. More to come down, but this will need a ladder. Waiting to be shredded and the brazier.

hope you manage to get it sorted @sue we never know what 'treasures' are buried until we start digging, I still have the remains of a concrete path buried, but it can stay there Cherry I bet the Frangipani looks beautiful at the moment Geumlover quite a lot of work for you, I hope 'Brian' was kinder too wet and windy here to even walk up the garden today

The frangipani trees are beautiful grindle. There are a lot of colours in them and everything in-between. Isla Alexandra picks one up every morning for me to float in a vase. My very large basket of Hoya fell down, probably with the weight of the rain, and squashed some Alpinia gingers. I need some more varieties here.

We've been lucky so far. Its breezy and bright here and not too cold either:) Got some dead stuff cut back . I'm clearing the fence so I can get the rest of it painted before the weather gets too cold. The nettles have had a good year...lol

Been busy in greenhouse wiping the staging of with jays fluid, collecting more leaves up. I also found the hedghogs have taken up residence in a woodern box i've been collecting leaves in, it's lovely and sheltered there in the corner of house and fence, they still come out at night for there food

More debris burning. I will get the chain saw out tomorrow and try to cut the rest of the stump. Trouble is that there is a lot of wire embedded i them so I will have to be very very careful. Otherwise spending the day getting covered in smoke.

Clearing leaves, duckweed and fallen branches and twigs. Also had my metal arch broken. it has a jasmine all over it so looks like I will lose that too as no way can I separate them. Also had one of the pampas grass awns battered down but much of that will have to wait a while. My seedling alpine plants are doing ok and will have to prick out some seedlings. When was gardening ever meant to be easy?
