Yes Eli, spigelia is a delightful and eye catching plant. I will post pictures in late spring to further tempt you For me it flowers again in late summer Sue, until recently I have not seen spigelia in any catalogue. I think it is hardy most places but good soil and not being crowded out helps

Our soil gets very waterlogged at times vc so may not be suitable, looking forward to seeing your photos when it's in flower though as it sounds good. I spent yesterday morning cleaning out the birdfeeders & trays whilst being entertained by the Rocky the robin who kept jumping around on them watching me! I ended up throwing one seed feeder away as it was starting to rust & have taken down another which wasn't very well designed so the seed kept going mouldy in the rain, luckily I had a spare which I've put up instead.

I've been out in the garden this afternoon it was lovely, OH power washed all the patio and drive way as we had our fence done in the rain and there was mud every where, what a difference it makes all clean and fresh. I've tidied the long border and feed the birds again. really pleased with today's effects.

A dry sunny start so hoping to move some plants around this afternoon. Maybe some seed sowing itchy fingers at this time of year.....snowdrops, hellebores, etc, even arum lily flowering to get the blood pulsing!

I've got a whole bunch of seed catalogues to look through not exactly gardening, but my garden is sodden. Some nice new patio Blueberries in the catalogues - can someone tell me, do you need two blueberry plants to get a crop? I can't actually seem to find that info in the catalogue

I think most blueberries will crop on their own Bess but 2 different varieties close to each other are supposed to produce bigger crops, they do need acidic soil/ericaceous compost though.

Two...or more...blueberry bushes will help produce a "crop" Bess. I have 4 different varieties here. Apart from the pollination issue you can select an early, mid or late variety to prolong the cropping. Sue is correct....an acid soil is essential. My soil is neutral so I grow my bushes in pots of ericaceous compost and plunged in the garden.

Thanks. Well I'll probably go for two plants then. Yes I've got some big pots vacant and some ericaceous compost - I don't actually know what pH my soil is, but there was an extremely sad azalea in it when we got here, so I'm guessing it's not very acidic!

The nearest thing to gardening I've done in a long time is plant three little spider plant 'babies' that broke off one of my big ones. A friend recently brought me some Christmas cactus cuttings that her new kittens had broken off her big one, because she thinks I've got green fingers and will be able to root them for her, but I haven't planted them yet. Maybe I'll do them today if I can find enough energy

Got the pressure washer out today. What a palaver which is why I don't do it all that often. Anyway the steps under the bird feeders needed a good clearing and also the patio area which has been unusable lately due to the weather also got a good clearing away of the old leaves and detritus that had built up.. Not particularly cold but my tiny hands were frozen by the time I had finished so just need to wait for a spell of DRY weather (some hope that is) so I can sweep up whatever is left.

Busy morning elsewhere but planted out snowdrops in container with daphne Perfume Princess, potted on a rosemary and dianthus and checked on lilies and tulips growing on in pots this afternoon. Tempted to mow lawns but a tad too wet despite the beautful weather. It is sunny, warm and dry. A lovely (premature!) feeling of spring

I did venture out into the garden yesterday to empty the wood ash bucket into the compost bin along with a bin bag of partially rotted leaves & put out a little blue flower shaped bird seed feeder in the border. Had a wander around, everything very soggy & in need of a tidy up & I may prune some of the roses this week if it warms up a bit & stays dry for more than half an hour!
