Lou78W, that's a beautiful photo of your garden. What's the blue at the back? @hywel, that was a real bargain you got - well done for finding its name. I wonder why Pound World couldn't have have labelled it better?

Agapanthus? I have never seen such a big clump of Agapanthus flowers in this country. I thought they were Aconitum carmichaelii.

Just had to show you this, it started of as a tiny cutting of 'Sir Alf Ramsey Dahlia' I didn't think I was going to get any flowers from it, we had some awful gales one day so I carried it into the green house and it's been there ever since the flower is about 10" across, it's a shame all the show's have finished, he would certainly got a first.

Lou78W Does your Agapanthus survive outdoors all winter ? I have a small one in a pot but I'm afraid to plant it in the ground.
Geranium I can't understand why shops don't put the names on plants. Maybe that's why they are so cheap. I don't usually buy plants in such places though. I prefer a garden centre or nursery. ... perhaps I am a snob ! but they do tend to have the correct names on them, and they are not so neglected.

That is really good lesley. The only saving factor is that you can show off to us and I am pleased that you did.

It stays out all winter @hywel....no special treatment....its 5 years old now and quite big. Its a bit of a myth they do better in pots...you could gradually pot it on until it is a reasonable size then put it in the ground

Maybe it would have been better in the ground. I'll take your advice about this one, and pot it on for a few years, until it's a bit bigger. Did you add grit to the soil when you planted it ? I'm worrying about the amount of rain we get here, and that would make it rot in the cold weather.

I inherited three plants, @hywel. They're all in the garden doing well - and we get lots of rain here, too! That Dahlia really is a beauty, lesley.

We are on clay soil here and like Geranium, get plenty of rain...

I wonder because of the lateness of the season that could be the reason why there is no white at the centre of the bloom, or is it still too young, you will have to let us know if any white appears or not.
