As you know we have had quite a bit of flooding in the paddock this past few days. We have a strange system for drainage from the septic tank and it all ends up as clean water that goes to the burn, we thought the flooding occured due to the pipe being blocked so Graham got the drain rods out and shoved them up the drain pipe, he kept hitting something so we thought the old pipe had maybe shattered or shifted. We heard the clanking sound where the rods hit the 'blockage' which happened to be in the polytunnel. So today Graham began digging a dirty great pit in the tunnel where the noise was heard. We couldn't quite believe what we saw.... When he dug the hole enough we saw that the pole you put in the ground to secure the tunnel frame to had gone right through the old terracotta land drain pipe , right through the centre of it !! Bearing in mind the paddock is 60m x 20m, what were the chances of sticking the metal pole right through the land drain? If we had moved the tunnel 3" further over we wouldn't have hit it. It's so hard to believe that we had to chose the bit of the paddock to build the tunnel on was over a land drain from the 1920/30's. Sods law comes to mind

Will you need to dig that piece of pipe out Rosie? Of course, you will. I expect plastic pipe will need to replace, unless you take a pipe of the end of the drain. What a bother. My son would love to help with that as he put in the septic system here, but he is working away at present.

Having spent years working with sods law, I would say the chances were very good!!! And indeed it happened, proving that the law of sod is real!!!! Once had to rewire a room where the fixings used on the new skirting boards hit two cables, there were only two cables to hit!!!

steve2t. One day, way in the future, Rosie will be able to laugh at her brush with sod's law.

I think ironic just isn't the right word for it...The pipes are perfect either side of the broken one which is a help i suppose.

Well the good news is that the new pipe is in and the holes are half filled, it got too dark for Graham to work any longer, but at least it sorted out now. Tel, i bet we couldn't do that if we wanted too. It's still hard to believe.

Well done Graham. I suppose you were on tea duty Rosie. Now think about it. It could have been worse.

Graham must have worked really hard to get it sorted so quickly Rosie. I suppose the only 'upside' is that it happened at this time of year when the polytunnel isn't full of plants.
