I have several Geraniums, including Splish Splash and Jolly Bee, but my most useful, grow anywhere evergreen one with early pink flowers, was given to me so I don't know its name (I'm sure Geranium will be able to tell me ;D). It spreads by thick roots along the surface of the soil and the leaves are scented, and some turn a reddish colour in autumn. Its easily propagated by cutting off a piece of root with a couple of leaves and planting where you want it to grow. It does gradually spread to make a large mat, but is easy to control.

Peony, that will be one of the G. macrorrhizums - that's the next group I'm going to write about. Les, do you mean that 'Splish-Splash' died? I might have some seeds - if not, I'll save some for you this year.

OK. The next group is the G. macrorrhizums. They make a good low-growing clump, and can be used as ground cover. They'll grow in all soils and positions, even in full shade. It's very easy to pull pieces off if they outgrow their space, as they spread by rhizomes on the soil surface, and you can get them rooted to increase your stock. They're evergreen, too, and have scented leaves. I'm afraid I don't like the scent, but others do - it's just me. The leaves can have a lovely autumn colour, too. Colours of the small clusters of flowers? They range from white though pale pink to a reddish-purple. Some are so similar that it's only by looking closely at the stamen colour that you can ID it. These geraniums start to flower in April/May, and carry on for about a month. Mine are budding up now. Here are some of the ones I have. Ingwersen's Variety'Spessart''White Ness''Camce'

Yes Geranium I did mean Splish- Slash, Rosie sent me one before I moved, did have green house then so it didn't survive, that would be very kind of you. ;D

Lovely photos Geranium, the first one is the geranium I find so useful. I've made a note of 'White Ness', I haven't got any white ones, mine are either pink, purple or blue.

Although there are a good few in my garden I'm not really a fan. the bees seem to like them though.

I too like them with theeir differing colours and hardiness but I once had the job of digging them out of a rockery, quite a job. I do however have three Johnson's Blue and wouldn't be without them.
